Year 2
Welcome to Term 1 in Year 2
We hope you have had an enjoyable and relaxing break!
This term we will be learning about the history of Corsham in History and we will be learning all about how animals and humans grow and survive in Science!
Mrs Solomon will be teaching in class on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Miss Knight will be in class teaching on Thursday and Friday. The children will work with Mr Turnbull and Miss Webb for their PE sessions.
Home Learning In Year 2
Home learning will continue. Our Maths home learning is on Professor Assessor and will be set every Wednesday. There is a week to do it. We set spellings home learning that will be set every Wednesday and tested the following Wednesday. We will send home all the spellings for the term in the first week of every term.
Spellings
We encourage children to learn spellings using the Look, Cover, Write, Check method, following the sequence:
LOOK at the word
COVER the word
WRITE the word
CHECK their spelling against the word.
Reading
Your child will continue to bring home a reading book every day to share with you. 'Free Reading’ books may be chosen from the class library. Comics and easy books are also great to read as they can improve comprehension skills and give ideas for story writing, but they will not stretch their vocabulary and reading ability. Please encourage your child to read with expression, and to express opinions about the characters in the story, the plot, and what might happen next. Reading books and reading record should be brought to school each day. Reading books are always changed on a Monday.
Maths
All pupils will be given login details for an online maths system called Professor Assessor. Numeracy homework assignments will be given for the children to complete on computers/tablets at home. In term four we start the 2,5 and 10 times tables. There will be an option for the children on Professor Assessor to practice their times tables too. We then do a weekly times table test every Wednesday right through until the end of the year.
Water Bottles
Please ensure your child brings a named bottle to school every day, filled with water. The children are allowed to fill their water bottles up during the day if they run out. Please ensure water bottles are taken home regularly and washed.
Timetable of things to remember!
If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact the school office to arrange to speak with Miss Knight or Mrs Solomon.
Kind regards,
The Year 2 Team
