SEVERE WEATHER INFORMATION AND OTHER EMERGENCIES INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

We would like to remind parents of this information –

Our school will always aim to remain open whenever possible. A decision would be made to close the school only as a last resort. In making any decision regarding the closure of this school due to severe weather conditions or other emergency, our prime consideration will always be the health and safety of the children.

Should it become necessary to close the school early, due to severely deteriorating conditions during the day, you will be telephoned. When collecting children, please continue to use the Key Stage 2 blue gates to enter the school site. If you think it is possible that you would not be at home, please ensure that we have a nominated name, address and telephone number for a ‘safe’ adult who will be responsible for your child and that they are aware of the collection process above.

Under no circumstances would we ever send a child home from school without the child being collected by you or your representative, or without your consent on the day to let the child go home.

In the event of severe overnight weather conditions, such as heavy snowfall, you may not be sure if the school is open or closed. Please listen to the local radio:

BBC Radio Wiltshire on DAB or 103.5FM, 104.3FM, 104.9FM

Heart FM on DAB or 97.2 102.2 FM

Please also check the school website. Please do not ring the school as our phone lines will need to be kept free for emergencies. During severe weather it is not advisable for children to come to school unaccompanied in any circumstances. These procedures will ensure that in the event of a school closure, no child ever returns to an empty house, or returns home without the knowledge of the parent/guardian or their representative.

IMPORTANT – Are you sure the information we have for you is up to date? It is amazing how many times we cannot contact parents in an emergency when we need to because telephone numbers, home addresses, workplaces or emergency contact numbers have changed and we haven’t been told. If in doubt, please send us the information again – it is better to be safe than sorry!
